Microsoft, from time to time, releases updates, cumulative firmware and driver packs for Surface devices. The download includes the latest version of the firmware and drivers required for Surface in a downloadable zip format. These drivers are in the INF file format and can be installed without requiring an executable. The pack includes firmware that is delivered in the form of a driver package. Firmware is a program that comes embedded in a piece of hardware such as a keyboard, hard drive, BIOS, or a video card. How to find your Surface model?

How to Update Surface Driver?
Once you have downloaded the latest firmware from the download center, double-click to launch the installer; once it verifies your device and legibility to update, it will start installing the latest update. Once done, you will need to reboot to complete the process. If you already updated to the current update via the Windows update, then it will exit the installation.
Do I need to attach the cover or dock before updating?
Yes, you need to download the latest Surface Pro firmware and driver pack so the updates are installed for that hardware as well. You will also need to ensure to be plugged to power or at least 40% battery.
